Optional staff dashboard panel: who is on duty / on call
Melissa Hall
Could the customizable dashboard include an optional staff-facing coverage panel that pulls directly from scheduled shifts or selected services?
Our use case at Merry Puppins is a quick Team Leader reference so Team Members can immediately see whom to contact. We currently copy coverage into the Staff Dashboard Message manually. Schedule changes and past dates can leave that message out of date, and an external automation depends on a computer staying awake and signed in.
Suggested behavior:
• Let each business choose the role name and which services or shift records supply coverage, such as Team Leader, office manager, supervisor, or on-call support.
• Show today and upcoming confirmed, assigned shifts in a simple mobile-friendly list grouped by date, with actual start/end times and the person’s name. Automatically remove past dates.
• Support split shifts and nonstandard handoff times through explicit coverage start/end fields, rather than requiring staff to infer hours from a standard time-block label or free-text notes.
• Keep today’s coverage visible until its scheduled end even if an administrative visit is marked completed early. Exclude canceled, unassigned, and unconfirmed future shifts.
• Allow appropriate staff visibility and an optional business-approved contact link without exposing client or payroll information.
• Refresh within Precise when assignments or hours change, without an external computer or daily copying.
We recognize businesses use their dashboards differently, so this could be an opt-in panel alongside existing messages and panels. Is there already a native way to accomplish this? If not, could it be considered as an addition to Customizable Dashboard?

Adding the 6 a.m. use case following support ticket #44657: Merry Puppins currently schedules a daily 6 a.m. refresh of the Staff Dashboard Message so Team Members can see current Team Leader coverage before morning visits. Browser sessions can expire from inactivity or be ended by another sign-in. Support confirmed that extending the desktop session duration does not guarantee an unattended run, and a separate staff login would still time out.
A native coverage panel should refresh automatically before the first visits each day and whenever assignments or hours change, without requiring an awake Mac, an authenticated external browser, or a staff member to copy coverage every morning. The underlying confirmed, assigned coverage should remain the source of truth; past dates should disappear automatically, with split shifts and actual handoff times shown clearly.
